Banks and Burr have been supplying fishing tackle for nearly 50 years. Indeed this year we reach
the milestone of 50 full years of trading. Started in a shed by Reg Banks to supply bait to local anglers
he was soon joined by his son in law Dave Burr. This progressed to a small shop in Claremont road
and Banks & Burr was born.

The business recieved a boost in 1965 when Dave Burr won the All England national in the King Sedgemore
drain with a record weight of 76lb 9oz. This appeared in the Guiness book of records for 20 years.
The following year he captained the England team on the river Thurne in Norfolk.
Brian Froggatt a well known fly fisherman joined the business in the 1970s and trading continued
from the rather cramped premises which eventually took over the whole building.
When Reg passed away Daves son Carlton Joined the business and began to develop the mail order
side which allowed us to purchase next door and increase the floor size of the shop.
Daves wife Rosemary still helps out on a Saturday and Carltons wife joanne handles the books.
Simon Green the shop general manager joined in 2004 after Brian retired and apart from shop duties
can offer expert advise on match and general coarse fishing.

Dan Brackley joined us three years ago and looks after the bait side of things in between serving and
offering advice on carp and lure fishing.
Our latest menber of staff is Colin King who is an excellent allrounder wether carp or match fishing
colin can offer advice. He tells us he is a pretty mean tench angler and can be found targeting them at sywell.
And so to the future where the Internet now provides all the fishing information you could ever digest
and the ability to compare and buy fishing tackle without leaving your door, hence this new website.
