One of the most successful carp match waters ever introduced. 7 years ago
British Waterways drained this supply reservoir. All the fish were removed to
other waters and once the water level was restored they stocked with over 50,000
4 to 6 inch common and minor carp. Within a few months they were at catchable
size, and now 5 years on they are at 8lb plus. Catches have been
incredible with weights over 200lb common and even 300lb was achieved. Such
catches are unlikely now as the size of the fish makes it impossible, almost, to
land them quick enough but there are still plenty of fish being caught. Mind you
there are reports of some anglers who have mastered the dubious art of taking
very large carp on poles using excessive elastic. A s an added attraction to the
water, in particular during the Winter, BWB have introduced a lot of good sized
pike. The carp have become pike proof and the water does need predators to keep
down the carp and roach fry, this has been a good move as the area is short of
good pike water. The fishing has been good for pike, so much so that there are
now Pike matches held frequently. Obviously the weekends are always busy at
Drayton but mid week there is usually plenty of room. In the height of the
Summer there will be mid week matches but these are usually over fairly early so
the evenings are free for normal day ticket fishing. Day tickets are sold on the
bank Match bookings can be made by telephoning BWB on 01442278717 Full details
