HEYFORD FISHERY

Constructed in 1990 this was designed for match fishing although its always been considered slightly too wide at 15 to 16 metres. It is in the shape of an elongated S and can house 123 anglers. Over the years it established itself as one of the best match waters in the country, certainly suiting the top grade Match anglers who could afford the long pole necessary to put the bait in the far margin of rushes where the fish were. The original concept was that the water would be very even but that is in an ideal world and unfortunately that did not happen. Bends and the two bridge areas were very productive and of course fish moved with the wind. But even so it was a good water and provides good all round match fishing. They did suffer in the massive flooding in April of 98 and many fish were lost to the River Nene which is close by. Extensive restocking has been carried out   and the fishery has been restored. All in all a top class match fishery.   Charges. Mid week day ticket is £6. Weekend £6. Juniors/OAP's £3.50 anytime. After 1.00pm only £3.00 Most weekends are heavily match booked so its worth ringing to check availability of pegs. Tel 01327340002 Location. Between Daventry and Northampton the fishery is accessible from the Nether Heyford Rd which is 1 mile South of Weedon on the main A5 trunk Rd. Take a left at the Narrow Boat Pub. travel for about 3/4 mile over the canal, the fishery entrance is on the left. Grid ref6559 on Landranger 152
