| A very long established water supply reservoir for the canal system this lake
has a reputation for big fish. Apart from carp there are some roach and above
average tench. Although not often caught there are also same very big crucians
and even some bream that could go over 10lb. Its worth taking a look at the pike
as well. There used to be 2 lakes but several years ago they were joined and
this has spread the fish about. The water is controlled by the Coventry Angling
Association. They do provide day tickets but their low cost season book is worth
considering. The membership books are available in local tackle shops or even on
the bank, Day permits are available on the bank. It is only available from the Assistant Secretary. How to obtain it is laid out
in the membership card. Under present By-Laws the reservoir can remain open
during the normal close season from mid March to mid June but members will be
asked to pay a supplement of £1.00 per visit. Members with a night permit do
not have to pay the supplement. All the members cards are available in the
tackle shops throughout the area. Banks and Burr have them in Rugby so please
come and talk to us if you wish to join. Carp have lived in Napton for many
years and there are some very good fish but they are not easy, but there is the
satisfaction of knowing that any capture is a real sense of achievement. There
is a good head of tench with fish over 6lb and some superb crucian carp that are
well over 2lb. Excellent tench with fish over 2lb and some very large bream make
Napton a real specimen anglers water. Same good pike as well. There is a good
access from a road used by the boat marina at Calcutt Locks. The anglers carp
park is clearly marked. Charges Full member £17.50 Book . Reductions for Juniors and OAP's. This also gives access to many other
waters. See club info at the rear of the guide. Location. The reservoir is very
close to the canal at Calcutt Locks. From Rugby take the A426 through Drmchurch
heading South West. This road takes you to Southam but before you get to Southam
take a left for Broadwell and Naptan. Follow Napton signs. The road crosses the
canal over a hump bridge than a railway bridge. Just after this point the road
bears left and keep on this for about 1 In mile. The access is on the left and
directsto Calcutt Boat yard. Follow the track to the carp park next to the
reservoir. Grid Ref 4763 on Landranger 151. |
