CLIFTON FISHERIES

Please note this is now a season permit only water.

A  feature of Angling today. The management have created 7 sizeable lakes and a good length of the  River Avon which forms one of the lakes boundaries. The lakes have a good range of fish of all sizes and types.  The largest lake is called the Serpentine and this can house matches of around 60 to 70 anglers. There are some very big carp in here and local carp anglers do spend some time trying to catch them. There is also a big stack of smaller carp plus loads of bream and roach, some good tench and even barbel which again grow to a good size. Other species are crucians, chub and perch The Volcano pool, so named because its surrounded by hills, holds around 20 anglers and has a good stock of carp and roach. this is the deepest pool on site with depths up to 15 feet. The Reed pool is a shallow lake, again around 20 pegs, and here you can catch good carp and some big bream as well as roach and perch. The Jurassic pool has some big carp in it but also holds some good crucians and rudd plus the usual roach and bream.   Twin Peaks will become the fisheries main big fish water. This very interesting pool houses all species but you can expect some big bream to turn up. Finally on the lake front there is the Horseshoe, name derived from it's shape. There are some very good carp in here but recent flooding of the lake by the adjacent river has seen some fish losses on this pool. The least fished pool on the complex its still worth a visit for some tranquil fishing that can throw up some very good sport. The old railway cutting has been renamed the Canal Cutting simply because it is canal width and depth. This has recently been transformed into a match type water with loads of roach and silver fish like rudd and chub and small bream. It did house same quite big carp and chub but these have been moved to other pools. There are also some useful tench and these are quite handy in matches. This will become a very popular club match water for around 24 anglers. Access is very good with no one having to walk more than a few yards. Finally there is the river length which has around 60 pegs on it. The stretch was dredged out in the first stages of the site development and is very deep for such a small river. Recent improvements to the bank with fishing stations has helped it be more fishable. There is little flow in Summer but in Winter it is hoped that recent stockings will make this a worthwhile part of the fishery. There are plenty of roach and chub, a few pike and some carp that escaped when the River was subjected to severe flooding in April '98. The site has excellent close parking to all the waters.
