| Here is an interesting fishery which offers some good bream fishing as well
as the usual carp, tench, roach, rudd and perch. Owner Eddie Whitehead has also
kept away from the match scene which means that there is nearly always swims
available, even for the angler who cannot get up in the morning. There are 34
swims available, all within easy walking distance from the ample car park. The
usual rules about barbless hooks and no keepnets are in operation The only bait
bans are on boilies and hemp seed. Limited groundbait is allowed but must only
be introduced in small quantities and preferably in a feeder. The fishery is
open during daylight hours and operates throughout the year, although it was
closed for Jan and Feb during 99. This may happen in the future as they
are finding, like many other fisheries that the first 2 months of the year are
very quiet. This does ensure that at least the banks get a rest. There are some
very big fish with carp in excess of 20lb. All types are stocked. The best bream
to date weighed 7.4.0. Tench in the 4 to 5lb category plus some big perch
between 3 and 4lb plus good roach and rudd give the water a good all round
stock. All methods work, rod and line with either meat or feeder and the pole.
Don't be too light with the elastic as you never know what will take the bait.
For the carp traditional baits such as bread, meat and paste baits, corn or
maybe a good sized worm will often do the trick. Charges.£5.00 per day With a
reduction in the week for OAP,s to £3.00. Juniors are on a reduced fee.
Location. The fishery is close to the village of Napton. From Rugby take the
A426 out through Dunchurch and head for Southam There is a left turn for
Broadwell and Napton which goes across country to link up with the A425, Southam
to Daventry rd. This is at a cross roads junction by the Kings Head pub. Go
straight over and go up the hill towards Napton At the top of the hill take a
left for Priors Marston. The fishery is clearly visible on the right hand side
within a few hundred yards of this junction. Grid Ref4761 on Landranger 15 |
