MEADOWLANDS
| Situated an the outskirts of Coventry close to Ryton this site has two good
sized pools which offer a wide variety of fishing. A former sand and gravel
workings there is no problem with water quality and fish are thriving in
an ideal environment. There are 17.5 acres of water with the larger Lambsdown
lake at 13.5 acres one of the largest commercial fishing lakes in the area. Carp
are present in both waters but they are not the dominant species, which makes a
change. Tench are in abundance in Lambsdown whilst the smaller Warren pool
boasts the largest stock of still water barbel in the country. The waters used
to be run by John Bloor who was no stranger to running fisheries having started his
career with a short spell at Clifton lakes and then at Bishops Bowl. Never in
full control of his previous effortswas able to bring his ideas forward
and we are sure that it is step in the right direction. The fishery is now run a
new management team. Not everyone wants to
catch carp all the time, other species are welcome and add further to the
delight of angling which is to have a doubt as to what is biting and to be
surprised when you see what it is. A further water was added in. 1998 which
caters only for match angling. called the Frog hall pool it is only about 4
miles from the Ryton site. A long lake of 2.5 acres it houses about 50 pegs so
is well suited to quite big events as well as small clubs. Stocks of carp, tench,
bream and roach and rudd have quickly established themselves and this water will
come on song in '99. The Lambsdown lake has depths varying from 12 foot to 4
foot with an average of 8 foot. This is primarily a pleasure and club match
lake, there are no opens; The stock of tench is very dense with fish in the 4oz
to Ilb range but odd fish are much bigger with the best to date at 8.2.0. There
is a ·good head of chub up to 4lbs although one was caught several seasons ago
at 7.10.0.. There are some big carp with the best mirror at 26lb and a Grass
carp at 23lb and a monster Ghost at 18lb. Crucians, roach rudd bream and perch
make for a wide and interesting stock. All methods work here, the pole an
obvious choice with so many tench well within the capabilities of the average
pole. John does expect the 100lb barrier to be reached in 2000. The smaller
Warren pool holds several hundred barbel between 2 and 4lbs but odd specimens go
over 8lb so watch out. Plenty of crucians up to 2lb, same carp that average
between 5 and 10lb, bream to 7lb and some roach make this also an appealing
water. On site facilities include good car parking and a snack bar for hot and
cold food and drink. Toilet facilities are being updated for 2000. Charges.
