Makins fishery

Possibly the largest man made complex in the country with 18 various sized pools. There are varied: stockings as well so there is something for everyone here. The original site was naturally called Phase 1 and comprised 5 pools. Phase 2 fallowed with 7 more and then recently they have added phase 3 which is designed with the club match angler in mind There are many good features about this site. There is easy access to all the waters and very good safe parking. There are toilets on each phase which are particularly welcome with family groups where Mum and Dad take along the kids. All swims have good solid slabs on which to sit and the whole area is well grassed. There are 2 lakes on Phase 2, Lagoon and Lizard that are ideal for the disabled anglers with easy access, close parking and close proximity to a toilet. In an endeavor to make this the best fishery in the country     there will be catering units that will be able to provide food an the bank. Staff come round, collect your order for food or beverage, then deliver it to your peg. Can you imagine an early start in the summer, then about 8am having your breakfast at your peg. Sounds brilliant. Above all, and most important, there are loads of fish and an average day everyone will catch plenty. There is no close season, fishing is all year round. Its not all about catering for the general and match angler, there are specimen lakes. On phase 1 there are lakes One, Four and five that all have big fish in but Lake one is where the biggest fish are. Because of the size of the fish poles are not allowed on these lakes. There are rules as you would expect and they are designed to protect the fish and the environment. Barbless hooks must be used and no keepnets unless in a bonafide match. There is no night fishing which is purely for security purposes.
                                           Charges
Full day, dawn to dusk, £6. OAP and junior concession at £3.50 Unaccompanied juniors are allowed but they are restricted to lake 2 where there are under supervision. Juniors wishing to pay the full £6 can fish any pool. There is some match fishing on Phase 1 and 2 but there are always plenty of pegs available for the pleasure angler. Phase 3 is heavily booked at weekends but there is nearly always plenty of room during the week. Worth noting that phase 3 is designed with the pole in mind as most pegs are no more than 12 meters  wide, slightly less on some swims.  Location. To the North of Coventry, close to the M69 in the vicinity of Wolvey at Grid ref 4288 on landranger 140.
